Layperson terms for ketone body metabolism?
Hypoglycemia & hyperglycemia, low or high blood sugar levels, interact with ketone levels to produce either symptomatic or asymptomatic conditions. Layperson definitions & leading-thinker discussion.
Ketosis is caused by a lack of carbohydrates that are used to be burned for energy. This results in the burning of fat and the creation of ketones which are used for fuel. Use a blood-testing meter to find out what your ketone levels are – ketone levels at or above 0.5 mmol/L mean that your body is in ketosis. Your ketone levels may also decrease after the initial increase, but this doesn’t mean you’re not in ketosis anymore.

Ketosis is the natural production of ketone bodies in the fasted state by the liver and kidney from fatty acids. Ketoacidosis results from dysregulated pancreatic beta-cell insulin production.
